Saturday, March 19, 2011 - Bucks County Autism Support Coalition Conference

On Saturday March 19, 2011, Richard Newman was a featured presenter at the 4th Annual Bucks County Autism Support Coalition's Annual Conference at Central Bucks South High School in Warrington, PA.  Mr. Newman presented Planning for an Individual with Special Needs.  This was Mr. Newman's 4th year as a guest presenter and his 3rd year as a sponsor of the conference.  For more information about the conference visit www.bcasc.org.


March 15, 2011 Presentation to North Penn Rotary on Wills and Powers of Attorney

On Tuesday, March 15, 2011, Richard Newman made a presentation to members of the North Penn Rotary about the importance of Wills and Powers of Attorney.  Mr. Newman will discuss the purpose and significance of these documents and will describe how and why they are essential to estate plans, regardless of one's income level or the value of one's assets.


February 15, 2011 - Planning for an Individual with Special Needs

Richard Newman presented his program entitled "Planning for an Individual with Special Needs" at the Warwick Township Building (1733 Township Greene, Jamison, PA)

The program was open to parents and guardians of children/individuals with special needs and covered an overview of Special Needs Trusts, highlighting the different types, and when each type would be used. Emphasis was on how a Special Needs Trust can ensure that a disabled child continues to have access to public benefits and still obtain supplemental income or proceeds to enjoy the highest quality of life possible.


A Presentation about Veteran's Benefits - November 11, 2010

In honor of Veteran's Day, Richard Newman conducted a one hour presentation about Veteran's Benefits on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at The Brunswick at Attleboro, 310 East Winchester Avenue, Langhorne, PA .  The program ran from 3:30-4:30 pm. 

Attendees learned about benefits to which veteran's are entitled, how to apply for them and how to file appeals if a claim is rejected.   Richard explained what veterans need to do to make sure that they receive the benefits that they have earned  and are entitled to as a result of their service to our country.

 

A Presentation about Veteran's Benefits, November 4, 2010

Richard Newman visited the Ben Wilson Senior Center on Thursday, November 4th to talk about Veteran's Benefits.  Richard gave a brief presentation and was available to answer questions about Veteran's Benefits and other issues of concern to seniors.  The Ben Wilson Senior Center is located at 580 Delmont Avenue, Warminster, PA .  For more information about the programs at the Senior Center call (215) 672-8380.

Richard Newman presented at Warminster Township Parks and Recreation Building to seniors and their caregiving children on important legal topcis such as protecting your assets from a nursing home, important legal documents you must have, and wills and living trusts.

April 16, 2010 - National Health Care Decisions Day Conference

On April 16, 2010 Mr. Newman was one of two attorneys representing the Pennsylvania Bar Association at the National Health Care Decisions Day Conference at the Philadelphia College of Physicians.  Mr. Newman answered questions about Health Care Powers of Attorney and their importance.  Mr. Newman was able to help many people understand the significance of  this essential estate planning document.


April 13, April 20, April 27, 2010 - Planning for an Individual with Special Needs

On April 13, April 20, April 27, 2010 Richard Newman presented a program entitled "Planning for an Individual with Special Needs" through the Central Bucks Community School.  Participants learned about the importance of public benefits available for people with special needs. Attendees also learned about eligibility requirements for benefits and planning techniques to help maintain eligibility.


March 20, 2010 - Bucks County Autism Support Coalition 2010 Conference

On Saturday March 20, 2010, Richard Newman was a featured presenter at the 3rd Annual Bucks County Autism Support Coalition's Annual Conference at Central Bucks South High School.  Mr. Newman presented 2 sessions on Planning for an Individual with Special Needs.  This was Mr. Newman's 3rd year as a guest presenter and his 2nd year as a sponsor of the conference.


February 26 and 27, 2010 - PAELA Second Annual Conference

On Friday, February 26th and Saturday, February 27th, 2010, Mr. Newman attended the Second Annual Conference of the Pennsylvania Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.  The conference presented a wonderful opportunity to network with other Elder Law Attorneys and to discuss current trends and techniques in this ever changing area of practice.  Mr. Newman returned from the conference full of exciting new ways to benefit his clients.

November 3, 2009 - Early Stage Alzheimer's Support Group

On November 3, 2009, Mr. Newman spoke to the Early Stage Alzheimer's Support Group about a number of topics, including Wills, Financial Powers of Attorney, Health Care Powers of Attorney and Protecting Assets from a Nursing Home.  These were topics that were requested by those in attendance and all felt that the information provided was very valuable.


October 29, 2009 - National Association of Retired Federal Employees

On October 29, 2009, Mr. Newman spoke to members of the Bucks County chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees about protecting assets from a nursing home.  Judging from the level of questioning which took place by those in attendance, it was a topic very much in the forefront of their minds.  After the presentation Mr. Newman was told by many of the members that the presentation was both interesting and informative.


September - December, 2009 - Center for Learning in Retirement

Mr. Newman taught a class called "Legal Issues Effecting Today's Retirees" for the Center for Learning in Retirement at Delaware Valley College, Doylestown, PA.  The course was taught in the Fall, 2009 semester.  Topics that were taught: Wills, Trusts and Powers of Attorney; Medicare; Veterans Benefits and Protecting Assets from a Nursing Home.  Mr. Newman also arranged for guest speakers to teach the class during the semester.  These speakers included, Dr. Donald Waldman, economics professor at Colgate University who spoke about the economy, Karen Risch, Field Representative for the Social Security Administration, who spoke about Social Security updates and Larry Glick, Congressman Patrick Murphy's Outreach Director, who spoke about the pending Health Care Reform legislation. 


August 2, 2009-Appearance on Philadelphia Agenda Radio Program

On August 2, 2009, Mr. Newman was interviewed by Brad Segal for his weekly program on WOGL, Philadelphia Agenda.  Mr. Newman spoke about Identity Theft, touching on how to recognize if a person has been a victim of Identity Theft and what to if a person has, in fact, been victimized.  Mr. Newman also spoke about how to ensure that a loved one is getting good care, either at a nursing home, or by a home health aide.  Mr. Newman also talked about protecting assets from a nursing home.  In addition, he explained the difference between a revocable living trust and an irrevocable trust.  The one-half hour interview went very well and listeners found it to be interesting and informative.


May 1, 2009-Central Bucks Regional Senior Task Force

On May 1, 2009, Mr. Newman spoke before the Central bucks Regional Task Force, whose purpose is: "To distribute accurate information and develop open communications within the Senior population with local, state and federal agencies and will create awareness of security, health/wellness and other issues that will enhace the quality of life of Central Bucks Seniors."  Mr. Newman spoke about topics which are germane to the practice of Elder Law, such as Health Care and Financial Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Veterans Administration Benefits, Guardianships and Medicaid planning.  Mr. Newman also spoke about other Elder Law issues, such as the use of spousal annuities in Medicaid planning, the current status of Pennsylvania's Assisted Living legislation, the use of living trusts, Pennsylvania Estate Recovery and the use of Pennsylvania's Filial Responsibility Law by nursing homes to collect their bills.  Mr. Newman also spoke to those present about the Senior Resource Network and he updated the group about the current status of the Bucks County Elder Law Handbook.  The audience found Mr. Newman's presentation to be interesting and extremely informative.


April 21, 2009-Bucks County Bar Association

On April 21, 2009, Mr. Newman gave a one hour seminar to members of the Bucks County Bar Association regarding Special Needs Trusts.  The attorneys present received one hour of continuing legal education credits for attending the seminar.  Mr. Newman spoke about public benefits available to persons with disabilities, the various kinds of Special Needs Trusts  and how to administer these trusts.  Mr. Newman's presentation was received by those present, who found it to be very informative.


March 28, 2009-Bucks County Autism Support Coalition Conference

On March 28, 2009, Mr. Newman attended the Second Annual Autism Conference of the Bucks County Autism Support Coaltion.  The conference took place at Central Bucks High School South.  Mr. Newman meet with a number of family members of autistic children and discussed various aspects of special needs planning.  Later in the day Mr. Newman gave a presentation about planning for a loved one with special needs.  During the course of the presentation Mr. Newman explained which public benefits are available for special needs children and how to qualify and maintain eligibility for these benefits.  Mr. Newman discussed Special Needs Trusts and how they can be useful in enabling these children to continue receiving important financial and medical benefits.  The conference was very meaningful for all who attended and Mr. Newman's presentation was well received.


February 25, 2009-10th Annual Estate and Elder Law Symposium

On February 25, 2009 Mr. Newman attended the 10th Annual Estate and Elder Law Symposium in Philadelphia.  Sessions in the symposium included a review of the latest cases and trends in Estate and Elder Law, Avoiding Medicaid Mistakes, Utilizing Public Benefits in Special Needs Planning, Nursing Home or Personal Care Admissions Contracts and Family Caregiver Agreements.  Much of the information provided helped refresh Mr. Newman's knowledge of these important topics.  Mr. Newman also learned new information which will help him better represent those seniors in need of his services.

February 17, 2009-Veterans Administration Certification

On February 17, 2009 Mr. Newman received his certification to practice before the Veterans Administration.  Beginning in 2008, only those attorneys who were properly certified and who obtained three hours of legal education on VA Practice could appear before the VA.  In addition to becoming certified, Mr. Newman took the requisite course and is now legally permitted to represent clients for this important service.

February 17, 2009-Presentation at the Yardley-Makefield Library

On February 17, 2009 Mr. Newman spoke at the Yardley-Makefield Library about protecting assets from a nursing home, which is a major topic of concern for area seniors.  Mr. Newman discussed which public benefits are available to pay for nursing home care, and how to qualify for these benefits.  Mr. Newman presented the audience with some tips on using these benefits to pay for care while protecting assets.  Those in attendance found the information to be very helpful.

January 26, 2009-Presentation at Boscov's, Neshaminy Mall

On January 26, 2009 Mr. Newman spoke to an audience in the Neshaminy Mall Boscov's about protecting assets from a nursing home.  Mr. Newman reminded the audience of how expensive nursing home care is.  He then gave an overview of how to pay for this care without sacrificing a lifetime of savings.  Those in attendance were very appreciative of the information given by Mr. Newman.

October 6, 2008-Lenape Valley Foundation

On October 6, 2008 Mr. Newman gave a presentation at the Lenape Valley Foundation in Doylestown about Special Needs Planning.  Specifically, Mr. Newman spoke about which public benefits are available to children with special needs and how one becomes eligible for these benefits.  Mr. Newman then discussed the role of Special Needs Trusts in helping to maximize the quality of life for these children.  All of those in attendance were grateful for the information Mr. Newman provided.

September 25, 2008-Warrington Lions Club

On September 25, 2008, Mr. Newman spoke to the Warrington Lions Club about Identity Theft.  Mr. Newman focused on how people can protect themselves from being victims and what do to if they, or someone they know, has had their identity stolen.  The Lions present enjoyed the presentation and found it to be helpful and informative.

July 24th and 25th, 2008-Elder Law Institute

On July 24th and 25th, Mr. Newman attended the 11th annual Elder Law Institute in Harrisburg.  Nearly every Pennsylvania Elder Law practitioner was present at the two day symposium.  Mr.  Newman attended classes that pertained to all facets of Elder Law practice, such as a review of the key cases and legislation of the past year, the effect of the new Partnership Program on Long Term Care Insurance, Marital Medicaid Planning, Medicaid-Calculation for Annuities, Monthly Income and Spend Down, Defending Nursing Home Cases, Assisted Living Contracts and what Pennsylvania is doing under the Deficit Reduction Act.  Mr. Newman also learned about Utilizing Public Benefits in Special Needs Planning in order to reinforce his knowledge in this area of law.  All of the classes proved to be invaluable sources of information which will enable Mr. Newman to be of greater benefit to his clients.

July 16, 2008-Presentation to Kiwanis Club of Doylestown

On July 16, 2008 Mr. Newman spoke to the Kiwanis Club of Doylestown regarding areas of concern to seniors and their families.  These topics included, Financial Powers of Attorney, Health Care Powers of Attorney, Living Wills and Asset Protection Strategies.  After the presentation those present said that they found the information very helpful and were glad they came out on a hot summer day to attend.

July 11, 2008-Presentation for the Alzheimer's Association

On July 11, 2008, Mr. Newman spoke on behalf of the Alzheimer's Association at the Senior Center in Horsham, PA.  The topics included Financial Powers of Attorney, Health Care Powers of Attorney, Living Wills and Protecting Assets from a Nursing Home.  Those in attendance at the presentation were caregivers of Alzheimer's patients and found the information provided to be very helpful.

May 21, 2008-Presentation to Hatboro Rotaries

On May 21, 2008 Mr. Newman spoke to the Hatboro Rotaries about Identity Theft.  He spoke about issues such as the prevalence Identity Theft, how one can minimize one's risk, and what those who become victims can do to restore their good name and credit.  The Rotarians in attendance enjoyed the presentation immensely and felt they received a great deal of valuable information.

April 28, 2008-Presentation at the Peak Center in Lansdale

On April 28, 2008 Mr. Newman spoke with seniors at the Peak Center in Lansdale about Identity Theft.  He was joined by members of the United States Postal Inspection Service to educate the attendees about the pervasiveness of the problem and how to avoid becoming a victim. 

March 29, 2008-Bucks County Autism Support Coalition Seminar

On March 29, 2008 Mr. Newman conducted a seminar about Special Needs Planning for the Bucks County Autism Support Coalition.  He spoke about issues of great concern to parents of special needs children, such as understanding which public benefits are available and how one should plan to maintain eligibility for those benefits.  He received a great deal of positive feedback from the attendees, many of whom did not realize what could be done to help protect their children's financial viability.

February 13, 2008-Presentation to Montgomery County CPA Society

On February 13, 2008 Mr. Newman spoke to the Montgomery County CPA Society about protecting assets from a nursing home.  The presentation focused on a number of topics, including exploring ways to pay for nursing home care, an overview of Medicaid, and a discussion about methods to protect assets for single people and married couples.  The presentation was well received by those in attendance.
